Do you want a quick change in your decor? Does your room look bland, but you don’t have a big budget to redecorate? No problem. To quickly change your decor, or give a plain-looking room some style, just add a few coordinated decorative items. With well-chosen colors and accessories your room can really sizzle.

First, consider the basics. What colors do you want to use? If you want the room to have some pizzazz choose bright colors like red and silver. For a more subtle look stick with earth tones and shades of green. Whatever look you’re going for, stick to one basic color and two accent colors. This will really bring your room together. Add rugs, throw pillows, candles and picture frames in your basic color. These items all add a sense of warmth to the room and draw everything together.

Then decide what sort of style do you want the room to have. Choose candle holders, lamps, clocks, and other accent pieces in this same style. Try and choose accent colors or neutral colors for these items to give the room a unified look. Try finding simple bold pieces for an Asian or modern look. White pieces with lots of detail are perfect for shabby chic, or choose wooden pieces for an Americana or country look. You can easily create or change a theme in a room with these basic items.

Finally choose decorative items that you love and enjoy, such as figurines, paintings, plants, and photographs to give the room a personalized look. Be sure and choose things that you love and want to surround yourself with. This will make the room look and feel like home while still keeping a decorator touch.

With just a few coordinated items and a little planning it’s easy to turn an unremarkable room into a beautifully decorated room that reflects your personality. You can do it a few items at a time, or all at once. Either way, the results will be beautiful!
